Our Hyraceum Absolute (Procavia Capensis from Somalia) is diluted at 20% in 190 proof undenatured alcohol. This absolute was processed in France 15 years ago and has been aging beautifully. Hyraceum is a by-product of the symbiosis of the environment and the excreta of the Rock Hyrax, a small mammal from East Africa. Collecting the excreta hinders neither the animal life nor the habitat and is subjected to fair-trade practices. The odor of this base note, a cross between civet and castoreum, is animalic, leathery and transformative.
