Exceptionally Well-Made: Finely embossed woodland leaves and berries decorate the front and the back of this sterling silver quatrefoil Art Nouveau patch box circa 1900. A single stem rises up through the center of the box with leaves and berries to ether side. An irregular ribbon pattern decorates the sides. Handmade and bearing the french mark "DEPOSE" on the lip of the lid. Hallmark of famed 1880's Parisian jeweler Prudent QUITTE on rim of lid with two other hallmarks. Has ring which allows it be worn as a locket and a mirror in great condition encircled by gold beading. Interior is gold vermeil. 1.75 inches across, the price includes 1/4 oz. (8 ml) solid perfume of your choice. Patch boxes came into use during the 18th century at the court of Louis XV, where the use of "beauty patches" was popular. A beauty patch was made of gummed silk and was pasted on the skin as a "beauty mark" to emphasize a woman's facial feature, usually the cheek. See example of antique patches in picture below.
