Very Special! Wild strawberries in high-relief repoussé on sweet small antique (1900) French silver patch box. The top of this delicate box top is decorated with strawberries, leaves and stems. Signed by Frainier on the top of the box. The "Frainier" hallmark is hand engraved in the front design. Frainier's execution of boxes was of superlative quality which is evident in the extraordinary workmanship on this elegant and singular piece. Frainier's success was immense but he choose to work by hand and remain small, and could not meet the worldwide demand for his work! Has a ring which allows it to be worn as a locket. Mirror inside the lid. This case is 1.2" across and the price includes 1/8 oz. (4 ml) solid perfume of your choice.
Patch boxes came into use during the 18th century at the court of Louis XV, where the use of “beauty patches” was popular. A beauty patch was made of gummed taffeta and would be posed on the skin as a “beauty mark” that would emphasize a lady’s feature, usually the cheek.
