Very Rare: Four stunning repoussé pine cones embellished with pine needles decorate the front of this patch box. In the over twenty-five years I have been searching for antique patch boxes for solid perfume, I only seen two with pine cone decorations! Encircling the box is an artisanal embossed graceful undulating pattern. Inside the lid it is stamped 800 and has five (!) hallmarks. The inside of the box is gold-washed with a mirror encircled by gold beading. Feels substantial and good in the hand. Closes with a satisfying snap. Comes with loop with allows it to be worn as a locket. It is 1.75 inches across, and the price includes 1/4 oz (8 ml) solid perfume of your choice. Patch boxes came into use during the 18th century at the court of Louis XV, where the use of "beauty patches" was popular. A beauty patch was made of gummed silk and was pasted on the skin as a "beauty mark" to emphasize a woman's facial feature, usually the cheek.
