Beautiful oblong 19th century Scottish opaque moss agate and gilt snuff box. The lid is high quality intricately-patterned antique moss agate with beveled edges. The box is usual in that the hinge is on the short side of the box and so it opens lengthwise. Sides of the box are hand stamped in an abstractly botanical textural pattern. Moss agate is a semiprecious gemstone which includes green colored minerals embedded in the stone, forming filaments and other patterns suggestive of moss. It has a tactile polish which only comes with great age & handling. This case is 1.8" x 1.1" x 0.75" high and holds 1/4 ounce (8 ml) solid perfume of your choice.
