Gorgeous antique French sterling silver patch box from the 18th Century. Beautifully embossed Central urn surrounded by flowers and encircled by delicate flower and wheat pattern. Fanciful leaf and berry repeating pattern around circumference of the case. Interior decorated with a gold vermeil and houses the original beveled mirror in perfect condition Has 2 hallmarks. 1.3 inches across, and the price includes 1/8 oz (4 ml) solid perfume of your choice. Patch boxes came into use during the 18th century at the court of Louis XV, where the use of "beauty patches" was popular. A beauty patch was made of gummed silk and was pasted on the skin as a "beauty mark" to emphasize a woman's facial feature, usually the cheek.
