Stunning Huguenin Repoussé Cyclamen and Butterflies on Antique Sterling Swiss Patch Box. One-of-a kind! Beautifully embossed Huguenin Sterling repoussé antique Swiss patch box from the 1800's. This elegant oval case is decorated with repoussé butterflies, cyclamen flowers, leaves and stems on the front. The sides are pretty too: garland of ribbon, berries, leaves. A fine-grained texture decorates the entire surface of the top and sides of the box. Four hallmarks along the inner ring include "H❤F" (Huguenin Frères), plus a .925 silver mark. The oval measures 2 inches across by 1.6 inches front to back, and the price includes 1/4 oz (8 ml) solid perfume of your choice. Patch boxes came into use during the 18th century at the court of Louis XV, where the use of "beauty patches" was popular. A beauty patch was made of gummed silk and was pasted on the skin as a "beauty mark" to emphasize a woman's facial feature, usually the cheek.
